Various Relations and Family memebers of our Host Family

It could have been dreadful!

Imagine having all of us Coileys staying with you for an extended period!

Thank you Family Liz for putting up with us, showing us around, trying so hard to understand our fledgling Spanish and letting us become part of your family. Hasta Cuba Juan, hasta Scotia Berta and hasta Ingleterra Liz, Guilarmo …………..

Arriving in Cusco, a little apprehensive after 6 hours bus, 1 hour taxi, 5 hours plane, 1 hour taxi, 22 hours bus, met by Pilar and taken to the family house – extended family house! Where gradually over the next couple of days we met the

family. Liz  and Guilarmo , their children William, Illa and babyLiz and Guilarmo Chami. Grandparents Berta and Carlos. Uncle Juan . Live in Helpers Pilar, Rosada, Lucinda and their children Elsa Alisa and Jose.

We were made incredibly welcome, Invited to family gatherings, celebrations (happy birthday Berta) trips to the surrounding area( ruins, fiestas and family days out) , the weekly shop, Pisco sour nights, games of Sapo, Monopolio. Traditional foods – maize in every possible form, Quinea (I get the impression that you actually need no other food!) Guinea pig –but not Jed. Pork – but not with water – muy peligroso. Traditional Buying Lunchremedies, burning sugar, herbs, and coco in every form including inChami and Ilia your walking boots!

And what did we give back?

They’ve now at least heard of Rugby! and know we didn’t win! Have had a Sunday roast! Can play cribbage. Know rudimentary car mechanics. And know exactly how much soup and rice growing boys eat! And know that our home is also theirs should the trip to England ever be made.Bit of guitar, always a social event!

Bridget.
